A frequently asked question in the homeschooling community is "How do I explain the benefits of homeschooling to a person who is against it?" or something similar.
My answer is that I don't. Just like a child won't learn something they have no interest in, an adult can't be forced to learn. So I don't waste my time or energy trying to get them to accept what I know. That is their learning path. Their choice.
Something to consider is what makes this person's buy-in and perspective so important to me. Are they a parent, partner, or close friend whose approval I'm seeking? If that is the case, what if they won't give it? How does that affect my decision to homeschool? Have I explicitly shared with them what I need from them such as their support rather than their judgement?
Relationships are difficult. Generally, people lack communication skills and resort to tantrums to get their way. It is beyond our ability or responsibility to train other adults.
Our focus as homeschooling parents is to equip our children with skills that will serve them in their adulthood - communication, negotiation, compromise, and reaching consensus skills are top of the list.
